Wallfahrtskirche Maria Freienstein
St. Peter FreiensteinDue to its exposed location, Maria Freienstein is probably one of the most interesting pilgrimage sites in Styria. Precisely because the pilgrimage site is located on the mightier rock on the eastern side of the valley, Maria Freienstein can be called a spiritual gateway to the "Iron Road".
This special place is located 70 m above the Vordernberg valley, which has been characterized by ore mining, iron extraction and iron processing for many centuries. The steep climb to the place of grace and the castle complex surrounding it changes the individual. As you get away from everyday life step by step, you get closer and closer to yourself and to God.
A unique castle complex, in its center the church built on rock, invites you to experience silence and to let your soul dangle in the midst of a magnificent landscape.
Enliven the sanctuary on the rock and feel how in the silent contemplation one's own life house stands on good ground.
