Admonterhaus

Admont

In the shadow of the Admonter Warte

A majestic view of Admont – at the Admonterhaus you almost feel like Your Majesty Emperor Franz-Josef. Especially since it was opened on his 65th birthday. The highest refuge in the Gesäuse, which is also part of the Gesäuse partner network, awaits with real, homemade delicacies from savory to sweet. This strengthens you before continuing on to the namesake lookout, the Hexenturm, or the Natterriegel.

Mountain worlds total

That's what you could call the view from the Admonterhaus. Whilst you enjoy a refreshment of cyclists, a tangy beer, juices from the fruit growers or various good wines from Styria and beyond, you can enjoy one of the most beautiful views of the mountains around Admont. The easiest ascent to the Admonterhaus is from the Buchauer Sattel and takes around two and a half hours. However, you can also start from Hall or Oberlaussa, but then you are half an hour longer ‘on the road’. One advantage of the Buchauer Sattel is that the Grabneralm and the Grabnerhof agricultural college's show dairy, located a few metres lower down, are also on the way up. Both are always worth a stop. So you don't have to do all the metres in altitude in one go.

Happy Birthday, Mr. Emperor!

A fun detail about the Admonterhaus: It was inaugurated on the 65th birthday of mountain lover Emperor Franz-Josef. Back then, as today, there was no road to the hut. The stones were quarried nearby and transported by horse-drawn carriage to the location where the alpine club refuge now stands. To this day, just like the Hess Hut, it is supplied only by helicopter or on foot. Strategically good, by the way, because you can continue hiking to the Admonter Warte, the Hexenturm, or Natterriegel. The secured climbing route (for experienced hikers only!) with the melodic name "Jungfernsteig" as a connection to the Blumenberg Grabnerstein is a dream.

You can find the current opening hours on the Admonterhaus website.
