Jakobihaus Soboth
EibiswaldThe Jakobihaus in the center of the hiking village Soboth, completed and ceremoniously opened in the summer of 2005, is the home of the association for the promotion of old and new crafts and contemporary art and living culture.
Basic concept of the association "Sobothage" is that not only "vague utopias" of a Heile Welt are sketched, but these are converted also in the everyday life. Carpenters, sawmill operators, freelance artists, architects and planners, graphic designers and conceptual Zionists are networked in a cooperative, as are farmers who work in the spirit of the association's philosophy. Core topics are education and consultation, health and living with its far-reaching aspects as well as the "refinement" of human life and togetherness in context with nature and environment. Mass-produced articles do not find their way into the assortment, which is presented in the Jakobihaus in a fantasy-stimulating ambience. The association sees itself as a platform critical of civilization, which goes into opposition to the harmful effects of industrialization and mass and consumer society.
Ongoing exhibitions in the gallery on the upper floor, permanent sales exhibition arts and crafts with a focus on local wood, information point, central starting point for hikes of the hiking village Soboth.
On the upper floor you can currently visit the exhibition 350 years of Koralpenglas.
In past centuries, bustling activity filled the forests at the foot of the Koralpe. From the raw materials of their immediate surroundings, works of art made of glass were created that still fascinate us today. The exhibition shows an interesting cross-section of the products of bygone times from the glassworks around St.Vinzenz, Ferdinandsthal, Aibl, Vordersdorf, Wies and the Bachern area.
