Walter M. Iber presents his new book about Riegersburg – experiencing history told vividly.
A special cultural highlight for all history enthusiasts is approaching: Univ.-Prof. Dr. Walter M. Iber will present his new book “The Riegersburg – A Fortress in the Course of Time” in the community hall of Riegersburg. This richly illustrated publication impressively illuminates the tumultuous history of one of the most important fortifications in Styria, offering exciting insights into architecture, changes in ownership, and cultural significance – a must for fans of regional history, architecture, and military history.
Walter M. Iber, born in 1979 in Graz and raised at the foot of the Riegersburg, is a professor of economic and social history at the University of Graz. He is a member of the Historical State Commission for Styria and the chairman of the Austrian Society for Business History – a recognized expert with deep regional roots.
The book explores the Riegersburg from its origins under Rüdiger, through the legendary Gallerin, to its current management by the Liechtenstein family, which has owned the fortress for over 200 years. Alongside the dynamic history of ownership, there is a particular focus on its development as a military defense point and a site of courtly culture – a tension field of military technology and splendor that is still architecturally reflected today.
