An expedition into the world of chocolate
From pastry chef to unique visionary. Miracles also happen in Southeast Styria. Provided that one believes in them. Josef Zotter has done exactly the things he was convinced of. He has reinvented chocolate and his company is now a competence center for chocoholics.

What today is an adventure world, a chocolate factory, and 500 colorful chocolate varieties was once just an idea. One among many. But it prevailed and has grown. Now it stretches from the quaint little town of Riegersburg across all of Styria, and even beyond, to the whole world. His chocolates have even made it to Shanghai and the USA.

Cheese, cracklings, and algae
He is creative, Josef Zotter, as he sits in his chocolate factory and creates new flavor combinations that are then transformed into delicious indulgent pieces with many unusual ingredients and wrapped in clever bows by Andreas H. Gratze. His unconventional approach to product development: Up to 90 chocolate varieties are brought to market each year without testing them. "Eight to nine of them work well, some are in the middle range, and some have to be taken off the market - ending up in the graveyard of ideas." This is how chocolate becomes a collector's item. Whether filled with pineapple, nuts, pumpkin, or even cracklings. No wonder the Zotter story is taught at Harvard University as a case study for lateral thinkers: It is a unique success story.
