1268 construction at the present location by the lords of Stubenberg
1550 expansion into a Renaissance fortress
1740 with the move to the newly built Wieden Castle, the beginning of the decay into ruins
1955 reconstruction of the castle by the Stubenberg family
1992 purchase by the municipal community of Kapfenberg
In the multimedia exhibition "Border Crossings" the history of our castle is vividly told. What does Oberkapfenberg Castle have to do with the fascinating world of the Crusades? And what lies behind the secret of the alchemist of Kapfenberg? We delve into these two questions in the exhibition "Border Crossings - a journey through time with crusaders and alchemists." The integrated children's museum offers a varied museum visit for both young and old.
Merlin the wizard would be delighted in the multimedia exhibition "Border Crossings - a journey through time with crusaders, alchemists, and the discovery of the Philosopher's Stone." Face to face with the snowy owl Flaumi and the eagle Aron, you can experience the bird of prey show with a breathtaking panoramic view on the castle terrace.
At knight games, you can prove your skill, and at crossbow shooting, your accuracy.
Loreto Chapel
10 minutes away - the wall remnants reveal the first castle complex from the 12th century. At the highest point of the hill stands the Loreto Chapel built by the Stubenberg family in the 17th century (elevation 693m) with the Black Madonna. The remarkable small Donatus Chapel is also visited.
The Falconry - Bird of Prey Flight Show
