This HWW hiking route is part of the Wechselland Historical Long-Distance Hiking Trail (HWW), which tells the story of Wechselland along more than 100 HWW stations. More information can be found at www.wechsel-wandern.at.

This long HWW hiking route leads from Schäffern via Ochenbauer and Tauchen am Wechsel to Baumgarten and Koglreith and from there via Hofgraben and Hiltmtor to Trahütte. Along the HWW hiking route, you pass the Koglreith HWW station, where it is explained that the tranquil Koglreith was once an important toll point in Wechselland for centuries.

Arrival by car
Take the Schäffern exit from the A2.

The tour is not signposted throughout. Route guidance with app recommended.

Hike from Schäffern through the forest and across meadows to Tauchen.
Follow the path from Tauchen in the direction of Koglreith.
Follow the path to the Hilmtor rest area.
Continue from Hilmtor to the Trahütte.

We recommend a nice picnic at the idyllic resting places at the Kreuzbühel Chapel or Hilmtor, or a stop at the Glatzl Trahütten Alm.

For local transportation we recommend the SAM-Sammeltaxi Oststeiermark.

There is a parking lot next to the church in Schäffern.
