On Bodenalm, Waxenegg, and Donnerwand in the Mürzer Oberland Nature Park
From the upper Mürztal, the path initially follows wide forest roads to the hunting lodge at the 'Eisernes Törl'. From here, the ascent becomes gentler, and the tour continues along wide alpine paths to Bodenalm. Both Donnerwand and the small Waxenegg can easily be climbed via alpine trails.
The return journey follows the same route as the ascent.

More information
From the parking lot, we initially follow the wide forest path (marked) towards Hinteralm until we reach the so-called 'Eisernes Törl'. Some forest road bends can be shortened slightly by taking short forest trails. At the Eisernes Törl, we turn right and come to the so-called 'Durchfall', a karst formation where surface water seeps into the rock. From here, we continue slightly to the right, passing the natural gem 'Naßköhr - Moor', and follow a wide forest road until we reach Bodenalm.
If we want to summit the peaks of Donnerwand and small Waxenegg, we now follow the eastward path towards Großbodenalm. Here, we take a left turn onto a trail heading north, and then northwest towards the ascent of Donnerwand (the trail is sometimes difficult to identify, 1,799 m, summit cross, be mindful of rock cliffs!) and/or the summit of small Waxenegg (1,682 m).
The return journey follows the ascent path.
A true paradise for alpine hikers surrounds Bodenalm, Waxenegg, and Hinteralm. Therefore, an overnight stay at one of the alpine huts (please book in advance!) and a multi-day stay in this natural gem is highly recommended.
In the valley, the Neuberg Monastery with the Nature Museum, the Woodcutter Museum, and the Kaiserhof Glassworks are also worth a visit.
