The "Old House", Thörl Castle and the ruins of Schachenstein Castle still bear witness to centuries of iron processing. The old “Hammerherrenhaus” can be visited on a guided tour. The family recreation village of Etmißl awaits visitors with scenic walks (Hochschwab view included) and mystical power spots. One of the most popular hiking destinations in the Hochschwab group is the Fölzalm, surrounded by climbing rocks. St. Ilgen, the charming little village at the foot of the Hochschwab, is a classic among Styrian mountaineering resorts. From the Bodenbauer you have the fastest approach to the Hochschwab peak via the "G'hackte", which is also the highest point of the BergZeitReise, the circular tour through the whole of Hochsteiermark.
In addition to the fauna and flora riches (Karlschütt plant reserve - lady's slipper orchids), we have the pristine and intact nature of the Hochschwab to thank for the excellent Hochschwab water, to which part of the Hochschwab Museum is also dedicated. In winter, Häuslalm and Buchbergkogel are popular destinations for ski tourers and snowshoe hikers.
