HWW-Hiking route: Pinggau - Tauchen/Wechsel - Schäffern (circular trail)

This HWW hiking route is part of the Wechselland Historical Long-Distance Hiking Trail (HWW), which tells the story of Wechselland along more than 100 HWW stations. More information can be found at www.wechsel-wandern.at.
This HWW hiking route goes from the center of Pinggau to Rodlmühle, to Tauchen am Wechsel and to Schäffern, from there via Karnegg, Bärnegg and Tanzegg via Dirnegg back to Pinggau. At the HWW station Karnegg, which reports on the settlement of the Wechselland region from the 12th century onwards, you have one of the most beautiful views over part of the Wechselland region.

Arrival by car
  • Leave the A2 at the Pinggau/Friedberg exit.
  • Turn right onto the B54 in the direction of Pinggau.
  • Follow the B54 for approx. 3 km to Pinggau.
The tour is not signposted throughout. Route guidance with app recommended.
  • Start: The hike leads from the center of Pinggau.
  • Stop: To the Rodlmühle mill.
  • Continue: To Tauchen am Wechsel and Schäffern.
  • Crossing: Via Karnegg, Bärnegg and Tanzegg.
  • Destination: To Dirnegg and finally back to Pinggau.
We recommend a relaxed picnic at the Kreuzbühel chapel or a visit to the Maria Hasel pilgrimage church.

For local transportation we recommend the SAM-Sammeltaxi Oststeiermark.
There are parking spaces around the Pinggau municipal office.
