We start at
Gasthaus Eberhard and roll downhill along Raiffeisenstraße for about 100 m and turn right into Eisenbichl before the bridge.
Later into Kirchgasse and in the gentle ascent we pass the parish church and reach the New Middle School opposite. We continue into the main street and come to the 12th February Street. Always following the Liesing we turn right at the level of Café Liesingthal into the Waldrandsiedlung and come to the former Ruthenian cemetery.
We return to the 12th February Street and go to Madstein, cross the Liesing and go along the cycle path to Timmersdorf, through the hamlets of Mötschendorf and Liesing and left downhill to the Wolfgruben and to Pfaffendorf. On a narrow path, always peppered with slight uphill and downhill stretches and tight curves, we glimpse Kammern and the Reiting massif on the right. Here you will also find the bee nature trail of the traditional beekeeping Stabler and at Nah & Frisch in the village you can enjoy a GenussReich snack. Strengthened by the view in the direction of the mighty Reiting mountain range with its peak "Gösseck" and the castle moat and the Gföhlerwand, we briefly spy the castle ruins Kammerstein and higher Ehrenfels in lofty heights.
Unexpectedly, mostly through undeveloped, lonely landscape, we reach Mautern.
In a 270-degree bend, the cycle path turns into Hammerherrengasse, crosses under the main road and ends in the (Mautern) main road. We turn left into this street and pass the striking parish church. A short detour (left) into Klostergasse is worth it to see the imposing walled enclosure of the long since dissolved Mautern monastery. Some of the monastery's successor buildings are used as a municipal office, cultural center (concerts, theater, opera) and music school. Now we reach the medieval center of the town, the market square with the pillory, the market fountain, the plague column and other historical buildings.
Here we reach the turning point of the tour and follow the uphill Alpenbad road for a short distance, but before the new spa visible on the left side of the road, we turn right into the initially asphalted Sonnweg. Along the Schoberpass Bundesstrasse B113 we go to Kammern and the district Seiz with the Ulrichskirche, then we go via the airfield Timmersdorf, Stadlhof Madstein back to the starting point.
Along the route to Mautern you can, by appointment, stop at the various GenussReich partners. Erich Steinrisser in Pfaffendorf 3 is known for his bacon specialties and the Rösselhof in Mautern offers llama walks. A little further on, in the direction of Kalwang at the Girnerhof of the Mitteregger family, a wide selection of sausages, smoked meats and fine brandies are on offer. In the market town of Kammern, with its wonderful museum farm, you will find exhibits that bear witness to 200 years of agricultural history and illustrate life and work in the coal and mining industries.
