Cross-country skiing in the ERZBERG LEOBEN region

Take the unique wintry mountain scenery around Erzberg and add excellent cross-country trails in four different versions. The result: pure cross-country skiing pleasure in the ERZBERG LEOBEN region.

This sport is just perfect for active nature lovers who want to do something beneficial for their body. Cross-country skiing exercises around 600 muscles, including those of the abdomen and back as well as the arms, buttocks, and legs. Other advantages: Cross-country skiing can be learned quickly, and the risk of injury is relatively low.

The following cross-country ski trails have been awarded the Styrian Cross-Country Ski Trail Seal of Quality and offer pure cross-country skiing pleasure:

Cross-country trail in the Eisenerzer Ramsau

The starting point is the car park behind Pichlerhof, where you can also get cross-country skiing tickets. From there, the trails lead over hilly alpine pastures and past alpine huts – with the impressive mountain range of the Kaiserschild as a backdrop.

Optimum snow conditions ensure cross-country skiing fun until spring. The Eisenerzer Ramsau offers a total of 10.5 kilometres of classic and skating trails in three difficulty levels (sports, hiking, and racing trails).

Krumpenloipe

Krumpenloipe in Hafning-Trofaiach boasts perfect conditions for cross-country skiing. Cross-country skiing at night is a fascinating experience.

As soon as dusk falls, the floodlights are turned on, and cross-country skiing enthusiasts can use the trails until 21:00.

Green Lake Trail

At the foot of Hochschwab, nestled in a valley head, nature lovers get to leave their tracks in an almost untouched winter landscape. Classic and skating enthusiasts can look forward to optimally groomed cross-country trails at various altitudes and in all levels of difficulty. The entry point is at the car park of Grüner See (Green Lake).

Wald am Schoberpass cross-country trail

This cross-country trail leads through the entire municipal area from Wald to Unterwald. There are three entry points and different routes to choose from.

The interlocking of the three loops means that every cross-country skier can decide whether they want to opt for a short circuit or the full ten kilometres.

Excellent cross-country ski trails around Erzberg

Classic cross-country skiing or skating – both variations of the sport are possible on the four trails awarded the Styrian Cross-Country Ski Trail Seal of Quality. The presence of a classic and a skating track is one of the requirements for receiving the seal. Other requirements include:

  • A minimum total trail length of 5 km and a minimum width of 4 to 6 metres.
  • Signposting with km information and skiing direction. This also includes the marking of the respective levels of difficulty – easy/medium/difficult.
  • Continuous securing of descents and dangerous spots with the help of warning signs and padded fall areas.
  • In case of weather changes, the trails must be groomed immediately. In addition, the grooming equipment must have a snowblower to ensure high-quality grooming.
  • The required medical equipment includes: a first aid kit, a skidoo with akia, as well as medical facilities.
  • There has to be guaranteed snow for at least 60 days per season. Alternatively, a snow-making system may be used.

For the starting points or entry points, the following applies: A trail map of the entire cross-country ski trail network including difficulty levels, altitude profiles and temperature display is required. Parking spaces must be available as well.
