From the main square we start in the direction of Schwammerlturm and Waasenvorstadt, where we turn right at the Waasenkirche into Donawitzerstraße. This leads into Kerpelystraße, which we leave after about 200 meters, at the railroad crossing we turn half-right into Pestalozzistraße. At the end of Pestalozzistraße, at the entrance to the voestalpine factory premises, we turn left over a railroad crossing back onto Kerpelystraße. We follow this road until the next railroad crossing. Instead of following the R38 in the direction of St. Peter Freienstein, we turn right over the railroad crossing and drive along the impressive hall of the fine rolling mill to the traffic circle. We leave this at the second exit in the direction of Tollinggraben. Now we go through the lower Tollinggraben on a gravel road for a few kilometers, partly steeply uphill, until we reach the first "highlight" of this round with a wonderful view at the Bauer im Eck. Through the upper Tollinggraben it goes just as steeply downhill until we reach the B115a at Freienstein Castle.
We cross this and then keep to the right (behind the Porsche car dealership). After a left turn we turn right onto a narrow section of the R38. Passing the castle Friedhofen we cycle to the church of St. Peter Freienstein and from there further uphill towards Hessenberg. Passing a tennis court we come to a crossroads where we do not turn right in the direction of Trabochersee, but continue straight on in the direction of the lowland. The steep ascent is rewarded with magnificent views in the direction of the Vordernberger valley, Reiting and Liesing valley. At the highest point, a cross-country ride through the forest towards the Niederung begins. At the next crossing at Traidersberg, however, we branch off in the direction of the valley. Of course, we enjoy the magnificent view of Leoben in front of us.
The challenging descent ends in Donawitz in the district "im Tal".
