Palate Delight Tour (Gaumenfreuden-Tour)

Open
From the thermal capital Fürstenfeld to the herb village Söchau to the Riegersburg and to the culinary highlights in the thermal & volcanic region of Styria.
A good bike stroke

From the thermal capital Fürstenfeld via the herb village Söchau to Riegersburg - experience and get to know the culinary highlights in the thermal & volcanic land of Styria. This tour, for all those who like to feast and relax, surprises with one culinary delight after the other and is also in no way inferior in terms of feast for the eyes, considering the incomparable view from the Riegersburg.

Tips for cyclists along the Palate Pleasure Tour:

  • Café Wilfling, Söchau: Café, bakery, homemade ice cream
  • Winery Thaller, Großwilfersdorf: Wine castle with Buschenschank and Greißlerei.
  • Riegersburg, Riegersburg: The Riegersburg is enthroned on the 482 m high volcanic rock, which gives incentive to "conquer" the Riegersburg and visit the witch museum or the exhibition "Legendary Riegersburg - Legendary Women".
  • Sea Resort Riegersburg: At the foot of Riegersburg Castle, a spacious lakeside bath attracts visitors for refreshment and relaxation. Culinary delights are served daily in the lakeside restaurant. Here you can also borrow e-bikes and park your car free of charge.
  • Zotter Chocolate Manufactory, Riegersburg: Josef Zotter carries over 90 different varieties of handmade chocolates; take the opportunity to participate in a "running chocolate" tasting.
  • Obstbrennerei & Essigmanufaktur Gölles, Riegersburg: From apple vinegar to balsamic vinegar: what ripens in the gardens around the Riegersburg in valuable fruits, that experiences by the hand of Alois Gölles a compression to the quintessence.
  • Malerwinkl, Hatzendorf: Eat & Art - enjoy food, drink and culture. Chef and artist Peter Troissinger takes you into his realm, a synergy of culinary and art. In the house gallery you can admire works of local artists.
  • Trattoria della rosa, Fürstenfeld: Let yourself be spoiled in a Styrian-Italian way.
  • Open-air swimming pool Fürstenfeld, Fürstenfeld: The child-friendly family pool - largest pool in Austria. The outdoor pool Fürstenfeld is considered one of the most beautiful outdoor pools in Austria and offers recreation, games and fun with 23,000 m2 of water and 100,000 m2 of well-kept green space with extensive trees. Restaurant and buffet.
  • Fuerstenbräu, Fürstenfeld: Hospitable, communicative brewery inn with traditional beer culture and a lovely regional, seasonal menu. Here you are always right.

Feast for the eyes and the palate

On the Fürstenfeld Delight Tour you start from the tourism office of the thermal spa capital Fürstenfeld and experience one culinary highlight after the other: From Fürstenfeld, you take a leisurely drive into the Rittscheintal valley toward the herb village of Söchau, where the herb garden invites you to recharge your batteries or Café Wilfling to enjoy coffee and homemade pastries. The winery Thaller impresses with excellent wines, which are pressed in the newly built castle. In the attached Greißlerei you can get top products from the region.

The tour continues via the village of Breitenfeld in the direction of Riegersburg: on the ridge you will first see the magnificent Riegersburg, built on a basalt rock, the landmark of southeastern Styria. At the foot of the Riegersburg, an inclined cable car takes you up to the fortress in just 1 ½ minutes. Via a newly built path around the fortress you reach the village of Riegersburg. Here you can fortify yourself for the ascent to Riegersburg with coffee and cake or a substantial lunch.

Sweet temptations

After this enjoyable stop, the pleasure bike tour leads out through Riegersburg. Here you should definitely make the detour to the chocolate manufactory of Sepp Zotter; over 365 different varieties of hand-scooped chocolates from the master's hand await your tasting. Continue past the lakeside resort through the Grazbach valley in the direction of Stang, to a turn-off to the Gölles fruit distillery & vinegar factory; the climb is soon forgotten after tasting the schnapps and vinegars.

Visit to the art chef

"Home" leads the gourmet tour to Hatzendorf to the Malerwinkl, where the chef and artist Peter Troissinger will be happy to spoil you with culinary delights, but also with a chat. Finally, you have the option of cycling back to Fürstenfeld and exploring beautiful gems along the railroad line, or the alternative of a pleasant train ride from Hatzendorf to Fürstenfeld with the thermal train to end a truly enjoyable day. For optimal planning of your personal gourmet tour, we recommend that you ask in advance for the exact times for the return trip with the thermal train (more information under Arrival).

Climb the Riegersburg on foot and visit the bird of prey observatory and let fascinating and fantastic world of the "kings of the air" displaced.
