Styria’s beauty secrets

Wellness and beauty

Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who has the fairest beauty tips of them all? — It’s a question that nobody, man or woman, can escape so easily. Since time immemorial, people have turned to Mother Nature for gentle, healthy ways to look “naturally good”. And it’s no different in the Thermen- und Vulkanland, which is by no means ungenerous with its charms.

Apples, grapes, pumpkins and the unique black elderberries are ripe for the picking. As the harvest begins, so too does the season of culinary and physical wellness. Nature’s tonics are not just TLC for the soul, but for the body too.

The farmers of Southeast Styria are not the only ones to have recognised the sign of the times and go back to traditional, organic products – the numerous wellness, treatment and spa facilities of the Thermen- und Vulkanland too are rediscovering the medicinal and restorative plants and herbs growing in our own gardens. Who would have come up with having pumpkin seed oil voluntarily massaged into our faces, for example? Today we understand the nurturing, relaxing, and smoothing effect of oil, which had already brought great delight to many palates as a dressing.

Apples, grapes, pumpkins, honey and elderberries are prepared to traditional and very effective recipes. Black elderberry, for example, is ideal as a massage oil or body peel for treating dry and sensitive skin; grape pomace peels smooth the complexion and stimulate blood flow, pumpkin seed peels and iced apple masks brighten the skin, while medicinal herbs from nature get the metabolism going. What’s more, cosmetics experts in the Thermen- und Vulkanland have even more beauty tips on hand for you to follow at home – simply ask, swap stories, and give them a try!

Nature’s gentle, caring gifts

What our homeland gives us

The local products served on plates across the land are “G'sund und guat” (healthy and wholesome). Styrian's specialists also pack the bountiful harvests into all manner of wellness and beauty products. A massage using honey, for example, will quickly help you regain your equilibrium, while an alpine herb massage with calendula blossom and lemon balm has a vitalising effect. Also on the programme:

Apple

Tastes great, is healthy, and brightens the complexion. Vitamins and minerals bring the immune system into balance and cleanse the arteries. Tip: The Heiltherme Bad Waltersdorf offers various treatments such as a detoxifying apple massage, which eases even joint ailments, or an apple vitality treatment to bring a glow to tired faces.

Elderberry

A highly multi-talented fruit! Elderberry is good for common colds, has an anti-inflammatory effect, and calms stressed skin. The Styrian brand “Styria Sambucus” brings these powerful berries to the market in the form of natural cosmetics. Tip: Enjoy a massage with sambucus elderberry oil at the Parktherme Bad Radkersburg, which evens out skin tone and helps the cells regenerate.

Grapes

Grape seed oil is an excellent treatment for inflammation, among other things. A grape facial firms up and detoxifies the skin, while OPC grape seed extract helps to boost cell renewal and counteracts the ageing process. Tip: Relaxing massage with grape seed oil.

 Thermal water

The salutary thermal water of the Vulkania® spring is now available in the form of an organic skincare line. After bathing in primeval waters, the skin feels particularly soft and supple – and now you can take this feeling home with you. Tip: Vulkanit mineral wrap with Vulkania® medicinal water relaxes the muscles at the Rogner Bad Blumau spa.

Medicinal earth

The local clay used for treatments at the Therme Loipersdorf, for example, consists of Gossendorf fango, pumpkin seed cheese, Zweigelt grape seed oil, and the purest essential oils.
Originally an Egyptian beauty ritual, it has a gently exfoliating effect on the skin, nourishes the body with vitamins, and peps up the metabolism. Blended with nourishing volcanic clay, the Zweigelt grape seed oil and essential oils derived from carrot seeds, lemongrass and cardamom also have an anti-inflammatory and moisturising effect. They firm up the tissue and encourage blood flow.

Medicinal clay, peat and earth can also be encountered at the Kurhaus Bad Gleichenberg, the Heiltherme Bad Waltersdorf and the Parktherme Bad Radkersburg. The earth’s natural treasures are used to ease pain and encourage the body to unwind and decompress.
